MY SUMMARY

The magic tree house series is an adventure series for boys and girls aged 5 – 8. Readers join Jack and Annie on many adventures through time to learn historical facts on subjects ranging from prehistoric animals to ancient kingdoms, heroes, warriors, myths and the like. In this adventure, Jack and Annie go to Japan. They meet real-life ninjas, visit the cave of a ninja master where they learn several ninja secrets and hide from a scary samurai. They must find a clue to help them in their search for Morgan Le Fey, the owner of the magic tree house. Read the book to discover the wonders of life as a ninja and whether Jack and Annie where able to find Morgan.

THUMBS UP AND DOWN

UP: Readers will learn interesting facts about ninjas in olden-day Japan making this book a valuable reference tool for kids. This book, like others in the series, also has some pointers on how to do research in libraries, museums and using books and the internet! I recommend this book for boys and girls between the age of 5 and 9, especially beginning and reluctant readers and kids with a love for adventure. For some extra fun, read the non-fiction companion to this book. It features all sorts of fun facts about ninjas and samurai.

DOWN: None.

MY SUMMARY

A hardworking but poor shoe maker cut the leather for a pair of shoes one night, and placed them on his work top. I will make the shoes tomorrow he thought and he went to bed. Imagine his shock when he woke up the next morning, to find, in place of pieces of leather, a perfectly made pair of shoes lying on his worktable. He sold the shoes and made a tidy sum so he bought more leather, cut some and laid them on his work top. The same thing happened to him that night and the night after that and many nights after that. So one night, the shoe maker decided to stay awake and hide in a corner of his house to discover the mysterious midnight shoemaker. Read the book to find out what the shoemaker discovered.

THUMBS UP AND DOWN

UP: It’s a Christmas classic. Perhaps the most important highlight: It’s a Christmas book that captures the spirit of Christmas. It shows the joy of giving either through acts of service or giving presents. The elves gave the shoemaker using acts of service (making the shoes for him) and they reciprocated using gifts (they made clothes and a pair of boots each for the elves.)

It also shows that hard work pays.

DOWN: None.
